How would one translate "But didn't you do that too?" into Esperanto (in the context where someone may mention or talk about an act someone else did, when they themselves did the very same thing)?

I'm going for "Ĉu vi ja ankaŭ ....." or something like that, is that right or wrong?

Sed ĉu ne vi faris la saman?

Cheers Rogir! Isn't ĉu ne also used at the end of sentences in the same way as "he" is in Dutch?

Rogir (Montri la profilon) 2010-januaro-21 15:23:17

Ĉu ne at the end of the sentence is quite similar to English isn't it, in Dutch we say either hè or toch, its precise usage is what distinguishes the fluent speaker.

I'd say "Sed ĉu ne ankaŭ vi faris tion?"

It's wrong. I mean, logically wrong, since it's a fallacy lango.gif
Tu quoque

Cheers for that Rogir, I didn't see the connection to "isn't it" for some strange reason lango.gif, and cheers also Darkweasel!

@ Vilinilo - Cheers, I guess rido.gif Do you mean it's wrong as in a bad style of argument?

We don't have enough context to know if that was used as an argument to make a critique on someone's behaviour, so it is not a fallacy by itself, unless used that way.

Vilinilo (Montri la profilon) 2010-januaro-22 21:47:44

niko-tina is right, actually I was kidding. Being a fallacy or not, one must know how to speak it in Esperanto, since even fallacies are part of the language. But, @ceigered used unproperly (as in general it is, indeed), yes, this kind of argumentation is horrible.

ceigered (Montri la profilon) 2010-januaro-23 09:02:57

Haha cheers then Vilinilo and Niko-tina lango.gif

The original context was a "pot calling the kettle black" joke with someone, not used as an argument (but of course that doesn't really show up in my original message lango.gif).

Also - "used unproperly" - I think we should rename this to "Used as-in-youtube-comments-ly" rido.gif
