How would one express the idea of 'getting away with' something in Esperanto? ie,: "you can't let them get away with that." Methinks perhaps the idiom might not make sense if it's translated word for word. Or would it?

I, too, think that translating idioms verbatim is somewhat risky and jeopardizes the meaning.

Maybe something like this would work: "Ne permesu ke ili faru tion senkonsekvence." or "Certigu ke ili respondos pri (pro/por) siaj faritaĵoj (farataĵoj/farotaĵoj)."

Great concise answer.

Sometimes the meaning of getting away with is literal as in the thieves got away with a loot at £3,000,000.

But in 'let someone get away with' the meaning is close to tolerate, accept, not do anything about it, which are easily translatable into Esperanto.

Nornen's suggestion of permesi ke iu faru is good too.
